Unity, Lagging, Leading power factor

In AC circuits, the power factor can be anywhere between 0 and 1.0 depending on the passive components within the connected load. 
For a resistive circuit the power factor will be “unity”. For an inductive-resistive circuit the power factor will be “lagging”. In a capacitive-resistive circuit the power factor will be “leading”. Then an AC circuit can be defined to have a unity, lagging, or leading power factor.

At base R , for lagging PF XL is at right angle 90 degree place with R and impedance is Z.

Power factor is the cosine value of the angle between source voltage and load current.
Power factor= R/Z
